behind him, pulling him to her. When she tried to kiss him with her own lips invitingly parted, there was no reaction. Though his whole response was clumsy, Cappy wasn't through. She leaned back, making sure he was completely aware of the contact between their two bodies.
Harvey's mouth tried to form words, but the effort spilled out in a halting fashion. This bozo knew nothing. For a fleeting moment she was filled with disgust, hating herself for what she had become and hating him for being what he wasanother stupid damn American Airman.
Cappy's hands fell away from his waist and began to work the brass-plated buckle on his belt. The stay bar was wedged tightly against the heavily webbed fabric. It was a struggle, her fingers suddenly clumsy and unequal to the task. And to top it all off, he was no help.
"I want you to take me to bed," she whispered in his ear. "Make love to me, make me forget about Charlie, make me forget about my sick mother, about all the bills and all the rest of my problems."
Harvey followed her like a puppy. He stumbled into the darkened room, groped his way to the edge of the bed, sat down and let Cappy begin to undress him. She took off his dark blue tie and light blue shirt and hung them on the ladder-backed, cane-bottomed chair next
